Any value generated by spinning off a clean Halifax (as opposed to HBOS) would benefit those same shareholders.

I think they reckon there's more value in keeping it. That's why they fell for the deal in the first place.

I think it's fairly clear that LBG value their Halifax and BoS branches more than their Lloyds TSB and C&G networks.

Lloyds is not selling HBOS.

Lloyds is selling branches from the group plus related deposits and loans.

We're discussing a suggestion by an FT hack that they should scrap the failing Verde project and sell Halifax instead.

HBOS as an operating group within LLoyds. Has yet to make a profit post merger. HBOS as a whole needs Lloyds while continuing to restructure its balance sheet.

They also say Virgin is close to a deal for Northern Rock. Reading between the lines of previous stories NBNKs best hope for buying Verde was to also buy NR as the Lloyds branches didnt have much capital to them whereas (the good part of) NR has plenty of capital but not much lending.
