selling a house and advice needed

I'm new to selling a house and wonder if anyone can give some advice.
In a nutshell myself and my girlfriend are buying a house from my girlfriends parents privatley (through the correct channels of seperate solicitors and what not)
I am selling a house I co-own with my ex wife which is under offer pending quotes on redmedial work on damp and a full re-wire.
Here comes the complicated part
My girlfriends parents move out at the end of this month so we are free to move in if we wish before any contracts are exchanged.
Because we currently live apart we definitely want to move in sooner rather later.
The question is what should I do about water, electricity, broadband and gas to my old house, do I need to keep these services going till I officially exchange and move out or do I cancel these services (obviously I will need to keep things like Council Tax and home insurance going).
Obviously we don't want to have to pay two lots of bills but I'm not sure what I'm legally required to do when selling a house.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Tony

I would keep water electricity and gas connected until you sell. It's not as if you are going to use a lot but it could be very useful.0

And it also means that the new owners don't have to pay to reconnect anything.0

I would keep water, electricity and gas but cancel eveything else. Most definitely cancel broadband/phone line.0
