media center 360

Hi,

I'm trying to setup my laptop so it can link with my 360 on media center, but it says my firewall is blocking it from opening certain ports, so I closed my firewall down but the same error came up..

I guess it means the router is blocking the ports, can anyone explain to me how I can open up the ports needed for my WRT54GS please.

Thanks.

Just about to try and do the same.

Is your 360 connected directly to a router and then your laptop connected to the router as well

That lists the ports that need to be open I'm not sure how to open them.

On the page on my router settings it has these options:

Application - which is just the name i choose I think
    Start -
    End -
Protocol - UDP / TCP - which I know from the Microsoft page
    Ip address - I think I know

It's just the start and the end I'm not sure about...

MY desktop is connected to router, and laptop connects wirelessly, as does 360.

Thanks do I need to setup the port forwarding on my firewall and router? And are they outgoing or incoming?

Sorry, misread your post, I think the link doesn't apply to your problem.

woo. No the firewall on your router wont need adjusting, you need to set the ports on the media centre machine, the router only deal with the traffic incomming and outgoing (sometimes) to the net.

If you disabled your main firewall, windows firewall will have started. To alter this open 'network connections' right click on your ethernet one, click properties, Advanced tab, Settings, add port, enter name 'xbox' then the port number, click apply, ok etc.

    Now try.

What is the firewall you usually use, it'd be easier and more secure to deal with that directly.

    Hope this helps.

Okay well I'm really stuck, I added them accordingly on my router settings (closed firewall just in case), and when I try to save it on router it says port number already exists but none of them overlap. I'm sure the setting sare correct, apart from IP address which i put .100 in all of them (it has the rest)..
