letter from American Express re PPI

I have just had a letter back from AE in regards to the claim for PPI, that my partner has been paying since 2003. They have put a copy of the orgional form in with the letter, stating that the box was ticked, and on the form the box for PPI is indeed ticked - However the tick is totally differenct from the other tick that is my partners, and my partner is still saying he did not ask for PPI, and if he was aware that he was paying it why did he not claim on it when he was made redundant in almost 4 years ago and had £0000 of pounds on the damn credit card. also just discoverd that we would have been entitled to something from AE called "life cover event", which basically means if we move home or have a baby we can claim, well we have done both and have never claimed as we had no idea he was paying this and had no correspondece about it (well apart from the paper statements that were sent every month that my partner never opened, dont ask, otherwise we would defiently have claimed)
I called up AE and spoke to someone who stated that the letter is the one and only reply and if we are not happy go to the financial Ombudsman. I asked for a colour copy of the orgional form and guess what these have all been destroyed many years ago - how convinenant.
Has anyone else had anything like this before ? and would we be right to go the FO with a falsley ticked box for PPI.
And also if we were coverd for life events, as we have just discoverd that we were paying for these can we not claim now ?
i look forward to your replys.
thanks for reading this far.

Hi there your reasons for mis sell are valid as you have stated above.
If this is the final response and they wont deal with you on this, then take this to FOS,you would have claimed had you known you had it,and the tick is wrong.0 -
I would say FOS is the way forward here.
The outcome will probably depend on whether they accept that the tick has been put in later and by somebody at Amex.0
