Santander overdraft matching

Options
I've opened a Santander Premier current account and was hoping to get them to match the overdraft on my old Smile student account. The problem is my Smile overdraft has now ended as I graduated just over a year ago, so there isn't really anything for Santander to match. Would I be best off just applying to Santander for an overdraft increase in the usual way (rather than matching)? Or is it worth perhaps asking Smile if they will put an overdraft back on my account, and then getting Santander to match that?

My initial Santander o/d is only £200, so that's probably all they can give me without matching right? And wouldn't Smile have continued my o/d if they could?

I'm just wondering what's best from the aspect of not wanting unnecessary applications on my credit file.
