Pre-payment gas meter question
Can someone please read this and see who is wrong please?
I don't want to ring up and it's me who has got it wrong:o
I had some problems with my gas pre-pay meter.
It wouldn't let me top up and said "CALL HELP"
This happened a couple of times, the engineer came and sorted it.
Last time it happened, I tried to top up £15
Engineer came and put £15 on the meter.
It has run out this morning, so I topped up by £10.
The meter took £9 so I only have £1.00 left
Is that right?
Or should I get onto them on the phone, which I hate, as the few times I rang before they were useless.
Thank for any help!

Engineers can't add actual credit to meters. If they could it would be far, far to easy to commit all sorts of fraud. All they can actually put on is emergency credit, so that's what the £15 that he left on the meter will be. Once you've used all of that, the meter will then look to reclaim it from your top ups, so you'll likely find that another £6 will come out of the next one as well.
To get the £15 that you had tried to top up back you will need to contact your supplier and ask them about it. I think diferent companies have diferent policies about whether and how to refund things like that...I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
Thank you. Just come back in so will ring them tomorrow.
They do owe me money and I'll get onto them to get it back0
