They also have a sneaky system of cutting scheduled trains delaying you by just under 30 mins so you cant claim. The knock-on effects of being late for work, home are a pain too and I travel earlier. Its infuriating.
Eh? Compensation applies to your journey, not how delayed the train is! If you are 30 minutes late or more then you are entitled to compensation. I fail to see how "cutting" a train can reduce claims?

Why use a figure of 167%?

Where on earth did you get that price rise from?

Ahh your making it up are you?

In post 25 Cash Cow made up a 167% fare increase in his/her example and I was actually saying that a fare increase that big wouldn't happen.

Did you actually read my post - or did you just see 167% in the first sentence and instantly click 'quote'?

They cut the schedule so that you end up arriving just under 30 minutes late. It's very rare they do it, normally when there is a major incident such as a land slide or when the country is blanketed with snow.

Be aware that different operators have different policies relating to compensation. There is a minimum level that they are required to adhere to but some operators go much further than that, so you need to check the passengers charter of the operator who you travelled with.

I think you're referring to the fact that trains are always timetabled to take around 5 minutes longer then they actually need to get between their final two stations.
