Antibacterial handwash for delicate skin?

At the moment I use antibacterial handwash and I am wondering why really. Are they really necessary? Do they make things better or increase the likelihood of superbugs like in hospitals. Is good old fashioned cleanliness always better.
I choose to not to use the anti-bacterial stuff because I believe the rise in the the amount of people with allergies has a lot to do with the rise in use of anti-bacterial cleaning stuff, and if you're never exposed to any germs, how can your body know how to cope with them when you are? Just my opinion though0 -
Hi
Thanks for your responses. I think I will stop using the antibacterial handwash now. It is amazing what you get used to using without really thinking about it. It becomes second nature just to pick up a particular brand or type of product (not any more though).
Another example of something that I used to use without really thinking about is shaving foam. I hate the butane powered canisters that you can't really recycle and was looking for something else. My DH mentioned that he sometimes used shaving oil. The main ingredient of shaving oil is grapeseed oil (with some added perfumes etc). A tiny of quantity of grapeseed oil in a small plastic spray bottle was over £3! I went to the cooking oil section and grapeseed oil was about 80p for 1 litre. We already had a small spray bottle so the grapeseed oil will last us for years. And it will be better for the environment.
This new way of thinking has been almost entirely down to this site and forum. It is very enlightening to look at things in a different way, even if a few people think you are a bit nuts.

I'm pretty sure anti-bacterial soaps and sprays are a rip off. I think the only reason they use them in hospitals is because staff don't have the time to wash their hands between patients.
They could also be useful if you're camping or somewhere without much water, but then to be honest vinegar would probably work just as well.
As for shaving foam, I use Aqueous Cream to shave with. Six month's supply costs about £2 from superdrug. Alternatively you can use olive oil or conditioner.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
