Sony Laptop Repair

Hi!

Yesterday evening, my darling cat jumped off the table right on to the spot of my laptop where the charger plugs into the computer.

She's a heavy girl, and she landed at just the right angle to cause some damage...

The connector now wobbles about inside and you have to have the cable at just the right angle so that it charges. The cable also gets very hot after just a few minutes, so hot infact you can hardly touch it.

The laptop is only 6 months old, so obviously I am annoyed. I have phoned Sony and they can repair it for £230. I can also claim on my contents insurance and pay excess of £75 (but obviously my premiums will increase).

Model number is VPCF13Z1E/B if that makes a difference.

I just wondered if anyone could suggest an alternative repair route...

Thanks :)

  • Try phoning a couple of computer repair shops and see if they can give you a quote. However if the power section requires replacing this could be an expencive job.

I would expect this would be much cheaper £230 at a local shop though. Any laptop repair guys know better about this?

£30-£60 to have it done at a shop unless you are unlucky and it snapped off the circuit board where the power socket solders to but I have yet to see that.
  • I am grateful thankyou:)

Knowing now that it's a simple job I have taken it to a little computer repairing joint nearby; the guy said it will take longer to get the lid off than to replace the damaged bit. It is costing £65, which is a lot better than £230 and therefore I am pleased once more...

The cat will also be happy as she can continue with her Whiskas rather than being downgraded to pond scrapings and fish bones!!
