Quote for fitting kitchen and other jobs

Hi guys

Need opinions on a quote I've just had for fitting a new kitchen (supplied by us) and some re-decoration work. I'll list the details below. I'm thinking the quote for installing the kitchen is a bit steep...

* Remove existing fireplace. (stone built 1970's job)

* Install customer supplied fireplace.

* Plaster as necessary.

* Remove rubbish.

Cost of job: £753-00

STAIR LOBBY.
• Install stud wall with doorway at bottom of stairs.
• Alteration to electrics.
• Plaster as necessary.
• New skirting and architrave.
• Door furniture supplied by customer.
• Remove rubbish.
Cost of job: £1094-00

LOUNGE/PORCH.
• Plaster ceilings.
• Install new radiator.
• Cap pipes to second radiator.
• Install new door between porch and lounge.
• Customer to supply door and furniture.
• Alter door frame.(especially step)

• New skirting all round.
• Decorate lounge and porch.
Cost of job: £1145-00

KITCHEN.
• Remove existing kitchen.
• Remove ceiling.
• Move doorway.
• Alter electrics.
• Install new ceiling.
• Plaster ceiling and walls.
• Alter plumbing.
• Install new units and appliances.
• Tile walls as necessary.
• Tiles to be supplied by customer.
• Lay new flooring.
• New skirting.
• Remove rubbish.
Cost of job: £4300-00

This is the first quote we've had, but we have used the guy before. The kitchen isn't huge, its long and narrow with a dining area at one end and measures 6.5m by 2.5m. Can anyone give any idea if this is a good price or not? I live in Berks. Thanks.

    I had a fireplace removed (brick, about 2.5m long) which cost £450 including VAT and including making good. So your quote is okay as it includes installing the new fireplace. Fireplace shops quoted me £400 to install a sone fireplace.

    For reference I paid about £500 to replaster a kitchen and fill a few holes, plus £60 to fill a serving hatch. I had some overboarding done (basically a new ceiling) and a 3.5m by 3.5m room was about £350, quoted by two firms. It might be cheaper and less messy to overboard than replace a ceiling.

    I had new skirting (MDF) through out the house, a 3 bed bungalow, at a cost of £1000.

    Your total kitchen work sounds expensive, but I could be very wrong. The above figures are all including VAT, and I had several quotes, all similar, from building firms. I am in the south and prices here are somewhat high but not as high as London.
