When is an online contract accepted?

This weekend I was looking for a new rc helicopter and came across a site in the USA that had made a mistake on pricing and was selling (in a sale) a heli for $1 plus delivery instead of $800. Now without much hope (and being cheeky) I ordered one, got a confirmation email for it and on the site my order went from pending to processing. Not surprisingly I got an email a few hours later saying the price was wrong and I could forward the balance for them to send it. I cancelled the order but today notice the money has been taken from my account. At what point has the order been accepted? Only if I get an "accepted" email, only if they dispatch it or if they take the money out of my account?

    on dispatch
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

What do their T&C say? However, it is usually on dispatch of the goods. Buying online is different to buying in store because there is no-one there 'in person' when you place - and pay - for your order there is no chance of them being able to tell you that there is a pricing error and offer at the correct price.

It'll take a few days for the card transaction to get sorted out and for the money to go back in. Can sometimes take a little longer when done overseas as well.

You need to contact the company but this is likely to be covered under American contact law so your question is only going to get answered by someone versed in US law. Even then you do not give sufficient information as local states have variations.

If you get no joy from the company then contact your bank/card company to see if they will treat it as a unauthorised withdrawal.

Contact your bank and report it as an unauthorised transaction

Is that for eight hundred dollars, or the one dollar and postage?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
