wireless keyboard & mouse question

I want to know how does a wireless keyboard and mouse gets its power supplier ? Does it require batteries to run? If so, then I dont really see the point of going wireless when a wired version can do a perfectly good job without the need of batteries.

I'm asking this because Dell is offering wireless mouse and keyboards with their PCs this month.

I must admit that I thought the same until I started to use a Logictech wireless keyboard and optical mouse. I can be very handy to easily move the keyboard quickly when required and the mouse performs much better without the need for constant cleaning. I use rechargeable batteries which last for months in the keyboard and several weeks in the mouse.

I have a microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse for over a year. I have yet to change the batteries in the keyboard...and I do type alot. The mouse tends to use more power, but I have rechargable batteries and take one battery out when its not in use. I hate wires and have been very happy with these products.

I have to say that I dont particularly like the idea of wireless ones either for desktops. I do have wireless both for my laptop and the keyboard is yet to run out of power (2 years and counting with non-rechargeable batteries but not used often) and the mouse lasts 4-6 months on rechargeable batteries. The only reason I got them was because I ocasionally have my laptop up on the big screen to play games and it was better than a very long video and audio cable (plus a laptop keyboard isnt always the best for games)
