iPod/itunes help - lost itunes music, can I keep it on my iPod?

Basically the title says it all. I accidentally deleted my whole itunes library. I had a few thousand songs, some downloaded from itunes themselves but the majority originally came from Limewire or CDs that were either borrowed from friends or that I subsequently sold on eBay after transferring to itunes.

I've downloaded my purchased songs again and put all the CDs I have lying around onto my laptop. Currently my old (lost) music is still on my iPod.

Is there ANY way I can either lock the music onto my iPod so that when I sync it to my laptop I don't lose all the songs on my iPod OR is there some way I can get the music off my iPod and onto my laptop? Getting desperate here as I got a few CDs for my birthday that are on my laptop but that I can't get on my iPod.

Hope someone can help. :)

If you merely deleted the iTunes folder or library via Windows Explorer, then surely you can retrieve it from the Recycle Bin?

If you have all the music you want on the iPod though, there are 3rd-party utilities out there that will help you copy it back to the PC.

    Google with terms like

    Restoring itunes library from iPod

    and variations....

Look for specialised Apple forums rather than this non-specific one.

Sharepod is very good for copying directly from the ipod to PC when you've lost the music in itunes.

    Its available here :

Surely you backed them up, oh and the bits in this colour are probably breaking copyright, so most users of the forum will probably not help openly. Yes it is a money saving forum, but hey hoh I've had a bad day :)

Alas, no! I had a VERY blonde moment and *thought* I'd transferred it all over from my old, broken PC to my new shiny laptop......... so I deleted it all and wiped the PC before it could get disposed off. Then realised that none of the songs were working. Completely idiotic not to have checked this before hand, I know!

As above, I thought I had transferred them over to my new laptop but hadn't done it properly. Would you believe me if I said that until Limewire got shut down I had no idea it was illegal? I went to the site through a recommendation from a friend and it never even crossed my mind that there was anything wrong with doing it that way :( I have to say I also didn't realise I wasn't supposed to copy CDs onto my iPod? I thought that was the general idea?

It is, iTunes walks you through how to do it when you first install it. I think its just the limewire bits that debitcardmayhem was referring to.
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

Nearly , but selling CDs after copying is also highly "irregular". I am not condemning , the laws are what they are and may be grey, but I was just pointing out something that Scottishlass should be aware of, especially as it is an open forum.
