Double glazing company cut through BT wire! £140 repair charge! Not Happy!

Options
Hello,

I'm looking for advice on behalf of my mom & dad and would be very grateful if someone could guide me in the right direction with this.

They had a double glazed front door fitted by a small company last week, ever since then they could not access the Internet. Today their Internet provider sent someone out to have a look, and they discovered that one of the cables on the outside of the house had been cut off, which they then instantly realised was obviously caused by the men who fit the door in. Their internet provider has charged over £140 for the repair.

After ringing the company and speaking with the manager, they have said they have spoke to the guys who fit it and none of them would accept responsibilty, and there is nothing they can do other than to come and assess it, but they will say anything to not have to own up to it.

What are their rights with this and what are the next steps they should take?

Thank you

What proof do your parents have that the door fitters cut the wire? If it's on the outside surely anybody could have done it. ( which is what the door fitters are going to say)
  • Later on that same day they tried using Internet and wouldn't work, so very likely it was them that done it as they would of noticed if any one else had come up to the house and cut it?

Have photos of the cut before BT carried out the repair, but apart from that don't really know what to do
  • Just some questions for some clarification.
    - Where is the cable attached to the house, and where does (or did) it go to enter the house?
    - Where was the cable actually cut?

Just trying to ascertain if it can clearly be construed that the cable was most likely cut during the job.

So, if the cable used to go through the old door frame, or around the edge of it ... and the cut is close to that then it seems that a reasonable person could conclude the damage was done during fitting. If however the cut is some distance away from the work that was done, then I fear you may have an uphill battle.

I would get the guys round that fitted it and have it out with them !

You don't have to be a aggressive but I would be very direct and tell them the internet was working fine up until they did there work then tell them they went to go online when the chaps left and it was down.
