Car insurance?
I am looking to buy myself a car as it is becoming increasingly difficult for me and DH to share our one vehicle as we seem to be working in different directions. Unfortunately I have never had my own insurance though I have been a named driver on my husbands policy for 20+ years. Our existing insurer, Esure won't quote as I have no personal no claims discount and they won't issue policies unless you have at least 1 years no claim:mad:
Is anyone aware of any insurers who look favourably on mature female drivers, with impecable driving records, who are looking for their first insurance policy? I've done an online comparison and seem to be looking at around the £1K mark.
thanks

You need to do all the comparison websites then phone the ones that dont use the comparison sites
then phone your local brokers to see what they can offer.
After you have phoned them all, Phone some more...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Long time lurker - first time posting.
We had similar problem and at the time we were with Direct Line and initally they did take into account the fact my wife had been a named driver also for 20+ years. However at the next renewal the premium had shot up so we used the comparison sites and then phoned Admiral. They gave a very good price on the policy that we were renewing and quoted fixed prices for the part years for the other two cars to bring them all to the same renewal date. They moved one of the polices into my wife's name, they gave her the full NCD but it is not protected unlike the other two. She now continues to collect NCD in her name and gets one year at a time protected.
We've recently renewed and the 2011 premium for all three cars was only £4.50 more than the 2010 premium so we were well pleased with all the recent examples of increasing premiums. Quite a few people on the car forums that I use seem to be pleased with the Admiral multi-car policy.0 -

I went with Diamond a couple of years ago, they phoned the insurers that I had been with to confirm that I had been a named driver for over a year, and gave me the years no-claims discount - they said at the time that they would honour most named drivers no claims, so it might be worth ringing them.0

Can a local broker beat Online comparison site price wise?
The further you move away from a 'standard' car insurance customer, the more likely a broker will get you a better price. The mainstream insurers don't want anyone out of the standard bracket and will deliberately quote high premiums to put people off.0
