The oil and filter is usually part of the basic service, but changing the brake fluid is usually something that is done every two years.

How many quotes have you had? Is this one from a main Ford dealer? And what year is the Ka? Is it still under warranty?

Do you mean brake pads and brake fluid require changing?

If so - a set of brake pads (assuming 1 set only i.e front) will be a cost price to ford of about £5-10, probably charge more like £35/40 to you - 1/2 hour to fit so about another £35

Brake fluid, cost to ford less than £1, charge to you...who knows maybe £10? labour probably 1/2 hour again £35

adds up to about 115 going by my crazy dealer maths so your additional seems about par for the course.
  • That does sound a lot. It does depend on the year of the KA. The new model uses different oil to most new fords. If it is not under warranty, you should try a quality independent garage. It should be less than £230 for a service. Or you can buy the bits from ebay, many of the ford dealers now have shops on ebay. I have had bits from one in the past and had them fitted locally. if you search for "quickco ebay" in google it will take you to the shop

unfortunatly im a bit scarce on the exact details as my oh has relayed to me so bit like chinese whispers! its an 09 ka, the new model. as far as she has said it was brake fluid and oil. i personally thought oil change should be included so that could be her getting a bit mixed up! it just seems a lot for a service and its not done a whole lot of miles.

Brake fluid change is every 2 years and was £40 last week for a focus.

Dont forget, you dont have to take it to a Ford Dealer for service.

You can take it to any garage as long as anything they use on the car (KA) is Ford then its fine.

My Corsa service is half the price at my local garage (£160 all in in May for a 2nd Service) than it is a my local Vauxhall dealer, where I originally bought the car.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

well we are going to try another ford place a bit further away which has a pretty good rep and by the website seems a bit cheaper so will try that first before pushing out too non-ford

Just to note Ford has a recall out on the New KA - engine breather pipe - its change free at the next service - If you didn't have it done 1st time around a Ford dealer service might be a good idea.
