Help to reduce kbps on MP3 files

Hi, I download audio mp3 files for my Phone mp3 player but as it is spoken words (sermons/audio books etc) not music I just need a kbps of say 32.
Most of the mp3's files come to me as 64 or 128 kbps and since the time play could be over an hour they can sometimes be up to 30-40 mb. And since my Sony only has a 64mb card.....well its a tight squeeze.
So does anyone know of free software that will allow me to reduce the kpbs of a mp3 file?
Perhaps I need to splash out for a bigger card:rolleyes:

You can use the excellent Audacity which can go as low as 16kbps.

Though I would get a bigger card as well.0 -
Thanks grahawk. I downloaded audacity looks complicated though:eek: I will spend a while seeing if I can find the "one" function I need. At present as I look at it I'm getting information overload on my 1.5 brain cells:rotfl:grahawk wrote:You can use the excellent Audacity which can go as low as 16kbps.

Audacity is easy - honestly.
Open your existing MP3 file.
In preferences from the file menu choose file formats. Choose the MP3 bit rate. Then from file menu export as MP3 and that's it.0 -

You may want to try our MP3Resizer0 -
Thanks for the link ssh and the program looks good and streamlined but it really would not be worth the cost when Audacity is free and I only do a handful of tracks each week. Nevertheless I appreciate your help.“Having, first, gained all you can, and, secondly saved all you can, then give all you can"....John Wesley
