PPI reclaiming for an old loan

Please can anyone help me, my partner took out a loan from egg about 9 years ago & was mis sold PPI.
So far we have written the letter with a £1 cheque attatched and asked for the details, as the loan is paid off and he no longer has any paper work. The reply came from egg stating.

"As the account is now closed I have to inform you that Egg are under no obligation to comply with a request for a copy of the executed agreement under the consumer credit act as we no longer have a contractual relashionship relating to this account, nor are we seeking to enforce any agreement on the account."

They returned the cheque.
Can anyone tell me what to do next? I would be grateful for any advice or help on this matter.

:) Thank you!

Hi there, you need to send a letter to them requesting all info they hold on you, this will cost £10 but will be worth it if you get the info you need.
    or
Does your boyfriend do internet banking? if he does, see if the statements will go back to at least when he paid this loan off,if they do he will find the account number, then you can ring and ask with the account number and they may just find this loan.
  • Yes he does internet banking, we will try that.

    Thank you for your help.

Egg are normally quite good even without the account number - even if you cant track this down, try ringing them and just giving name, address and date of birth along with the approx start date
