Remember a few years back my ma was in a store up north, someone loading garden equipment to a top shelf. Pushed a bit too hard, and a wheelbarrow fell down the other side hitting her in the head.

Can't remember the outcome, but I've no idea what the store were thinking.

You should have insisted on having it entered in the accident book.

I don't know if it's a legal requirement, but it's good health and safety practice to have an accident book. Everywhere I've ever worked has had one, and it's used to record any occurences. If something fell on somebody's head where I work, even if it didn't leave someone with a headache, then that'd be recorded.

I didn't know either, so I've given it a quick google. Not all incidents need reporting apparently, but I certainly agree that an accident book is a good idea.

More here on the offchance that anyone finds health and safety legislation interesting.

Most chains will take this pretty seriously as you could as easily have gone to a NWNF compo vulture lawyer instead of writning a nice letter - the cost of defending those cases pushes up their insurance costs

Happenned to my daughter when she was a toddler in mothercare, except it was stairgates that fell on her and cut her lip open!

I was hysterical ... staff were useless !

I took it to head office and they gave me a £10 gift voucher and an apology! Wish I`d had the balls to go even further.
