Line Rental not mentioned in Broadband Phone Offers etc

I'm fed up with recieving details by Tv, web and post saying how low Broadband and calls is and then if you're lucky seeing that line rental is extra in tiny print. Virgin, Sky and BT are doing it all the time. Should be stopped!

  • Couldn't agree more.

It's like advertising a car at x price, then finding out an engine costs extra.

Maybe Ofcom could come out and say "if you can advertise broadband without mentioning you need a phone line, then you have to provide broadband without a phoneline".

But there's a fat chance of Ofcom doing anything to help the normal customer - it's more interested in protecting the big boys and their fat profits.

Do I detect a bit of "I wish we were back in the days of the GPO" here ?

They don't quote line rental so that you have the choice/option of going elsewhere for a better deal, which at one time you never had.

I rent my line from Company A, get my broadband from Company B, put my calls through companies C & D , and my TV from company E. Why ? because I get the best deal that way.............

Yes, but the special offers that they tell you about only apply if you take out a line rental with them (you can't get the offer at the price with another provider).

Therefore they should be making it very clear what the TOTAL cost of the offer is......which they don't.

    Sharks, the lot of 'em.
    ''apply within'' :)

If I can get the best deal by going to multiple providers it 'aint much of a "special offer" from the ones you are complaining about ! :D
