I have an old cottage with a window recess of about 16 inches. I want to put up a cafe style net curtain as close to the glass as possible but the windows are wood effect UPVC and I don't know whether you can screw in traditional curtain wire fittings (it doesn't work if I try to screw them into the recess walls as they won't take the tension).
Have also been looking at curtain rods but the fixings aren't suitable for the recess walls - only for above the window inside the room. They face the wrong way - if you see what I mean.
At the moment the curtains are suspended from a bamboo stick, each end resting on a tall book on the window sill. Not ideal!
Any ideas? Cheers.

I'm answering my own question having found some 'recess fixings/brackets' on the net. Might have known someone had devised a solution :T

Hang on - You can buy sprung net rods. I have the rosewood pvc type windows & will be using sprung rods for the nets. No drilling or anything else required.

You can buy them almost anywhere. i.e. curtain shop, I've seen them is loads of places. Good luck
  • Hi there,
I tried the sticky back hooks for curtain rods and they kept falling off!!
However recently got suction cups with hooks and they are working brilliantly. I searched the internet for suction cups and discovered a selection on the market....
I went for a pk of 4x420mm wide cups and my nets have been hanging securely ever since.
These can be removed and reused easily, so are great if your renting!!

    All the best,
    Jayne:T
