Hope someone can help with this problem!
Basically I bought a new Panasonic microwave last week... when the door is shut and the microwave is not in use you can hear a high pitched buzzing noise.. its not really loud but you can feel it going through your ears...
Contacted John lewis who immediately offered a replacement... only thing is this one is doing the same thing!
Have emailed Panasonic but in the meantime wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem?

If it is the mains hum, then nothing to worry about, especially if it has an LCD display a lot of things hum when they are apparently 'Off'
If you are worried still get John Lewis to exchange it for another model, or you can visit Poundland, and pick up a Electrical Test Set which includes a Screwdriver that also detects Microwave Leaks. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0 -
It is probably transformer buzz. If it were mine and it made a noise loud enough to be easily heard, I would get a different model.0

Moneymaker wrote:Actually, I probably can't. My hearing cuts off at around 5kHz. But what you are describing is probably the power supply driving the display panel - most modern ovens have a clock/timer display. Normally these bang away at a frequency outside the normal audible range (above 20kHz) but some (young) people can hear them.
Not sure why though it only occurs when the door is shut.. if I keep the door open and the light on it stops!
Thanks everyone for your help0 -
The Sharp microwaves have an energy-saving feature that turns the timer etc off after 3 mins - perhaps switching to one of those (unless you're really fond of the Panny) would do the trick?0

With the door shut the load on the transformer is at a low level that causes it to buzz. When you open the door, the light comes on, the load on the transformer increases and the volume of the buzz changes, reduces or disappears below audible level.0 -
Personally if it was mine I would take it back for full refund.
Never take chances with electrical items it just aint worth it.0
