This advice is a good one. I live in 1 bed flat and my entire fuel bill is £35 a month DD. Electric is only fuel.
The less external walls/roof/floor the better in fuel bill terms.
Why is my electricity so freaking expensive!? I pay over £100 pcm for a tiny 2 bed flat:eek: We have NO central heating, only 1 little oil filled radiator which is on Oct-Feb/March as our flat is super hot. No gas so elec is only fuel. I dont understand:(The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I just looked up what we spent last month on our online account
£20 for electricity
£10 for gas
:j :T :j
That was us being extra careful to get costs down but it shows it can be done! Our direct debits are a lot more than that, £24 and £27 but at least we'll be in lots of credit for the expensive winter months

might be worth getting one of those energy monitors or turn everything off in your flat then check the meter isn't moving (if it is there's something wrong) and turn on one appliance, each in succession and then look at your meter to see how fast its going round. This will let you work out what appliances are drawing the most power. Is anything left on standby? How energy efficient is your fridge etc?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

Might do that. Fridge/TV/washerdryer are all less than a year old, all my appliances are A+ rated.
I have no electrical items in either of the bedrooms except occassionally a fan in DDs bedroom, but that is very rare. So the only things plugged in are in the livingroom/kitchen.
In my living room i have 1 computer which is on quite a lot of the time, TV/Blu Ray player/BT vision box and the phone plugged in. TV goes completely to sleep when put off as does the Blu Ray, vision box goes on standby.
Usual kitchen appliances, all small appliances get switched off at the wall when not in use.
Washer/dryer all clothes get washed on a quick was at 30 other than towels/bedding.
I do use the tumble dryer as i have limited space to dry but it surely isnt that expensive:eek:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Hi WelshWoofer
I'm pretty sure that I saw someone else mention this but have you told the council you're living alone? You'll be entitled to a 25% reduction in your council tax
As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -

I found my tumble drier to be quite expensive but it was one of the compact ones and probably about 10 years old.
I'm thinking about going back to an analogue phone so I'll save a few pounds. Yes ok I won't be able to see everyone thats called but thats why there's 1471 and 1571.
What about your lightbulbs? Is there some lights on all the time?
I'm trying to find an energy efficient alternative to halogen bulbs and halogen strip bulbs.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I'm good at switching lights off, same cant be said for hubby though:mad:
They are halogen so will lookat LED maybe to try and bring the cost down. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
