Is anyone collecting plastic milk tops for charity/other reason?

Hey Hey :D

Our local Air Ambulance was collecting the plastic covers to the milk cartons from the supermarket but recently stopped - are there any other organisations anyone knows of that still collects these, apart from my green recycling bin? :D

:D

To the best of my recollection, somewhere down the line, perhaps the place where your ambulance service was going to send the tops to, the majority of these turned out to be either scams or hoaxes.

If I remember right, it was said that it wasn't actually possible to recycle that kind of plastic.

Anyway - I'll move your post across to the green and ethical board where I'm sure somebody will be able to provide you with fuller and more up to date information.

    Good luck. :)

I used to work for a recycling charity and we discovered about this when we were trying to get someone to take plastic milk bottle tops off our hands.

There was a genuine collection scheme for a wheelchair for a disabled boy in Bridgwater. Not sure if it is still running but Starbucks were supposed to be helping to collect milk bottle tops

We were collecting at work (in Peterborough) for a wheelchair for a relative of a member of staff in the office. As far as we know it is still ok and continuing to collect them in a big box.

I collect them for use in the nursery I work at, if you are stuck for what to do with them try contacting local nurseries, they always want this sort of thing for collages / junk modelling etc. (Also like other things like corks, plastic yogurt tubs, small cardboard packaging boxes etc). We even collect the fronts of birthday / christmas cards for the children to practice their cutting skills on!

omg - have just read that link, can't believe people would do that. It just seems sad when someone is trying to help only to find out it is a hoax.

GHS Recycling in Portsmouth, has accepted plastic (polyethylene) bottle tops from Naomi House Children's Hospice in Winchester for £50 - £60 per tonne (100,000 tops).

Geez  I may as well just donate some money and save the hassle!

Thanks for the info  :D
