Big spend in currys on appliances, do i haggle?

Hi there,
I am interested in whether there really are success stories on haggling, I am in the next couple of days going into currys to buy,
Range cooker £799 £200 off £1000 for trade in )
American style fridge freezer £799
Washing machine £500
(I also have a rental house which I am buying new appliances for at the same time so that will be another...)
Fridge freezer £300
Oven and hob £500
washer/dryer £400

What do you think, would you do it? I am not the best at haggling but am aware I am buying a lot, could do with a couple of sony laptops (notebooks) for the kids to put away for xmas at £250 each.. what would you have a go at getting off?

    Worth haggling. Get evidence where its cheaper online at another high st competitor and ask to haggle price.
    It worked for me at Comet when buying a TV I showed them evidence that it was cheaper at tesco and they met halfway on the price.

    What's the point in that, should have just got it cheeper at Tescos.
    There wasnt a Tescos locally that sold that particular TV, it was only sold online that was the point.
    But really its to show that youve done some research and know what your talking about and have evidence to prove it.
    And by the way its cheaper not cheeper - birds cheep.

    Thanks everyone for the advise. Will look online and get some more prices, however for the range I want currys have proved much cheaper than others. I dont really have time to go around to all the different stores, I have 2 houses undergoing complete refurbishments and am project managing myself , hopefully it is all falling into place with not too many problems, the biggest problem I have had is trying to find someone who actually wants to do the work in the first place £30000 spend on each house and yet nobody seems to want the work!

    Either that or if ask a member of staff if they will allow you to use there discount card, I done this in tescos with a tv set and saved about £40-£50.00 they got the points and a half bottle of vodka from me.

    Do a price match and then ask for a discount. Cash is king these days and only a really stoooooopid salesman will turn a deal away.
    Everyone is entitled to my opinion!
  • Just ask confidently if there is any discount for putting in such a large order. Make sure you do it when they are still trying to get your sale, ie not when queueing up at the till!

    I've just recently started doing this and am kicking myself for not doing it for the last 27 years of my life. I got 25% off at City Plumbing just by asking (several hundred pounds), a similar amount off our tiles, that sort of thing. I used to be put off by the word "haggling", but there's no shame in asking nicely. They're happy because they've made a large sale and got commission - you're happy because you've saved a bit of money. Everyone wins.
  • i have just left a role as a store manager of currys after over 10 years. unless buying warrantied etc that kind of sale wouldnt warrant much of a discount, unless genuinely price matches etc. forget the staff discount thing, it would be instant dismissal. and cash is king??? sorry, biggest pile of poop i've ever heard! we did not want cash, cash is expensive, takes time to count, has to be secured, then has to be paid to be banked, finance on the othe rhand has none of these issues and we make money out of it (commission etc), so dont be deluded into thinking cash is an advantage, if anything its the opposite.
