BG Exit Charges - Watch out

Followed all the posts on these charges whilst changing from BG WS8 to EDF 2014. Had assurance from BG by e mail that fees would not be applied if EDF gave them 15 working days notice which they did.
However spotted a miscellaneous £30 charge on each utility, on the electric it was after account fully closed and BG had refunded the money I was in credit.
So each time had to phone accounts and they obligingly reversed the charges.
Advise people to just be watchful on your accounts in the final stages of transfer no matter what promises have been made.

My guess is that their computer programme cannot handle the policy change they have adopted on exit fees.

We recently swicthed to EDF after an article appeared in the Telegraph. Previously we had been on a fixed rate with British Gas that was due to expire at the end of September. We were told the switch would be handled by Uswitch to ensure that we were not penalised by finishing early with BG and that they would work out the best approach. This could mean that we do not switch until the BG plan had expired. This was fine as long as were were getting the best deal. This turned out not to be the case. The switch took place at the end of August and start of Septemebr but we were liable for a £120 early contract end charge. When w econtacted EDF they said we were misinformed by uSWITCH and that this was not their problem. After some time a very helpful lady at EDF agreed to refund and penalty charge as a credit on or first bill. Uswitch seem to be playing a duff hand that may cost people money. When we called Uswitch they were very unhelpful and offloaded the problem to the suppliers. Not good.

Errr BG would be well advised to alter said program very quickly. Breaching license conditions and recently updated guidance may land them with another hefty fine.;)

It's not rocket science.
