Specsavers!!!!

I had an eye test at Specsavers in Feb and had a new set of varifocal glasses made! It was the first time for me with varifocal lens and I was warned it could take a month or more to adjust. I expected it would take time but during the last 6 months I have had problems focusing on the lower section of glasses (the reading bit!). I also noticed what I thought was just a mark on the lense in the right lens - I have been contantley trying to clean the marks off to no avail!

Yesterday my son had a look at the lens for me (he was fed up watching me try and clean them Lol! He has 20/20 vision and immediatley saw that stamped on the lens at the point of the change of distances was the numbers 0 0 7 ! Obviously I will take them back but I'm concerned my sight might have been affected by this and need to know what my course of action should be! I'm hoping we might have a optician on MSE who might offer me some advice! I'm concerned because I've had a lot of thumping headaches in the last 3 months which I have put down to high blood pressure but now I'm wondering if it was that?

All advice gratefully received

I had excellent customer service from my local Specsavers. My glasses were uncomfortable and they tried their very best for over 6 weeks to adjust them but were unable to help. They offered me any other pair in the shop as a replacement but I didn't like any and was given a full refund, including what I paid to have the lenses uv reactive.

I hope your local shop is as helpful as mine.

I'm sure they will change them (but that means time with no glasses, so no reading or telly, and blurred vision !) but will they tell me if my vision has been affected by this mistake!

Sell them on ebay and list them as James Bond's unwanted bifocals.

    sorry, couldn't resist it.

Anyway, I'm sure that specsavers will change the lenses as there is no way that they can be considered fit for use if there is writing in the line of vision.

Have you considered asking another optician for their advice as to whether the glasses could have damaged your vision?

I've just ordered my second pair of varifocals fro Vision Express. I mentioned that i too struggled sometimes to focus through the reading bit and they looked at the measurements for me. It turned out that because of the frames i'd chosen, not all of the reading area is available as the lenses were quite shallow. This time i've chosen deeper frames to see if this improves. I have to say they did take a bit of getting used to but i love them now. Bit strange to have the marks on though ! They should sort it out for you, they're not cheap are they ?

Mmm thanks everyone - I was considering popping into another optician, but wasn't sure if it would be cheeky!

  • The numbers are on all prescription spectacle lenses.
They are very faint but if you look carefully, you'll see the numbers.

My lenses have a circle with AC below at one side and a circle with 178 below at the other side of both lenses.
These markings are on all 4 pairs of spectacles I have.

If you are having problems with the bottom part of the lenses (for reading/close up) I'd suggest they've got the prescription wrong.
It may be worthwhile having your eyes retested, elsewhere, to see what they find.

I've been having glasses for 30+ years and have never had visable nnumbers on my lens?? I would be interested to know if anyone else has numbers on their lens?

    Thanks

    Have you looked for them?
    Are your glasses varifocals?
(it may be just varifocal lenses that have these markings, been a long time since I had non varifocal lenses).
Angle them up to the light and you should see the numbers.
If you can't find them, ask your optician, they'll point them out to you.
