LHA gravy train still in full swing in London...

What baffles me is that their rent could house several large families in other parts of the country. It is just a colossal waste to spend that much on one family (who don't seem to give anything worthwhile back to their adopted country).
I feel the same about the obese guy who has cost the NHS over £1million on care over the years. Surely it's wrong to spend so much public money on one needy case when the money could help improve the lives of countless families/patients?0 -

It's not joined up thinking is it?
Frequently we see complaints on here of overheating/overpricing of London property, at a time when there is plenty of slack in other parts of the country. It seems daft.0 -
Just had a little look on Right move... £8,000 PCM would pay for 20 3 bedroom houses in some of the less desirable areas around me. I think we can pretty much assume that the property owner and recipient of these benefits knows the right people in the council0

I was born and bred here in London, just because I can't get a job since leaving school why should I have to move away from the only home I have ever known?
Yes I have a couple of kids and we are seperated, but I can't change that now.
The cuts to housing benefit and my other benefits terrify me. What are we suppossed to do if our benefit is cut under what we can get a flat for? We will have to use our other beneits JSA and child tax credit, and these are only just enough to live on as it is, all bills are going up and food is going up way more than my benefits.0 -

Or another point is, why should you be living in an area you cannot afford. Why just because you were born in London does that give you a god given right to stay there?
You also appear to have never had a job, but have two kids.0 -

We're taliking basic housing not luxury housing.0 -

Well I presume you want a job and if it has been so difficult in London it is probably a good idea to move away.
I had to move from the north west to Cambridgeshire for my job, I miss my parents and friends but it was needed to gain an income and achieve goals on my own. Although married last year, I also don't plan to have children until I am able to provide for them myself.0 -

I'm not sure we have enough about your circumstances to make suggestions. If you are separated, do you live alone or with the children? Housing benefit is being cut for many, not just you. This means that if landlords want to keep the business of their tenants they will have to factor that in. Alternatively couldn't you look for something cheaper in a different area but on the same tube/bus route so its still possible to visit the family and for the kids to go to school (if living with you).
I also read another post of yours (not stalking, honest) that said you are looking to set up your own small business, so good luck with that. Hopefully it will give you a bit more security. Job centres, libraries, Business Link and any little enterprise agencies that you may have near you should be able to help with info on this, as may the Prince's Trust if you are under 30.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Thanks for that. Yes some kids live with their mum, we found better off all round. If they moved back in with me then we get less benefit than if she gets her own flat. Its also nice having 2 flats for the kids and more space.
Some kids live with me in my flat, but if housing benefit is cut any more I will start having to use my £105 week JSA or £216 week childtax credit towards my rent. That is not right is it?0
