Online bank transfer advice

Hi,

Bit of an awkward one but advice would be greatly appreciated!

My sister is a bit disorganised and doesn't have a card reader for setting up new payees online. She's just moved into a new place so didn't have her new landlord's details saved to transfer him the rent. She transferred her rent money from her RBS account to her friend's Clydesdale account on 31st July (she had her saved as a payee). The friend was then supposed to transfer this over to the landlord's Natwest account but here we are a fortnight later and the rent money has still not arrived in the landlord's account. The friend was saying at first that the bank advised up to 10 working days as it was a new payee which seemed really strange to me back then as are all the major banks not signed up to the fast scheme? I also know from personal experience that even when setting up a new payee who is a different bank from myself, it tends to be received that day.

The past few days my sister has been trying to get hold of this friend to see what she's playing at but she isn't answering her calls or replying to her texts so it's all very suspicious.

A bit of a longshot; is there a way my sister can charge this money back to her account? She has spoken to bank and they cannot do anything so is police the next step? Or small claims court?

Sounds very suspicious, but from the looks of it your sister gave the money to her friend freely, so legally I don't think she has any claim to get the money back. If I was going to use a friend's account I would sit down next to this friend and make sure he makes my payment in front of me... otherwise this is the sort of time you would write a cheque!
