Help
I am in a bit of a situation at work.
I have moved departments at work but was forced to take a paycut. Because of this i am now struggling to pay my bills. The company is cost cutting so i have asked to be made redunadant, because if they do then i would be better off as i can get a lot of my bills paid by redundancy insurance. The company have agreed to this in principle but are worried about the legal side of things.
I could quit but i don't think i would be able to claim anything.
Does anybody have any thoughts or knowledge about this.
Cheers
Jim

Hi
Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) has rules for 'leaving voluntarily' and this can cover redundancy if taken voluntarily as well as just walking out of a job, misconduct etc.
You will be able to claim JSA and you should do so straight away if you become out of work. Be prepared however to have questions asked about the reasons your last job ended. The employer will also be contacted.
You could lose nothing at all if the reasons are acceptable, but could also lose up to 26 weeks benefit (maximum) if the reasons are deemed unacceptable.
At the end of the day both you and the employer will be contacted for the reasons and a decision maker will make the decision based upon the replies, not the Jobcentre themself.
You must continue to sign on pending and post the decision being made to keep the claim open, until you find work again.0
