Found spring in car

Hope someone can help, i found a spring in the drivers foot space of a 03 focus hatchback. Its about 32mm long not including the hoops on the end about 46mm including the hoops and about 5mm diameter. The spring is quite strong when you pull it. I dont know if its from the car or it was stuck to the bottom of my shoe when i got into the car.

Stick it back on your shoe and use it as a fuel saving device. It will push your foot back off the accelerator.Or maybe it will push the pedal down more?Maybe use it on your clucth foot??

Could be off the gear lever?
  • Most likely its off the clutch pedal, but it could be anything (There are an awful lot of springs under the dashboard). If everything seems to be normal - check everything including accelerator, clutch, brake, heater controls, etc - then it is probably off something not very important.

Just remember - car manufacturers don't put springs on things for fun. They're there for a purpose. You will have noticed if it had been stuck on the sole of your shoe.

You could have a look under the dash - something that pivots with a hole in it where a spring could fit would be a clue.

Sounds like the clutch pedal return spring, mine poped off once. A nightmare for my mechanic to fit a new one as he's a big bloke :rotfl:

Could it be something as simple as a seat spring ? That would be nice, inasmuch as it's nothing at all serious that's going to cost a lot to put right :-)

Just a update checked under the steering wheel today at all the items people have said and cant find anything out of place. The clutch has a spring and i cant see anything missing from the seat. I think it must have been stuck to bottom of my shoe but i will keep the spring in the car for a while just in case. Thanks again everyone.

stick your head into the dealer and talk to one of the mechanics, if it's something common and/or important they'll recognise it
