New Supplier

Hello all,

I have recently moved into a new flat. I have been looking around for a tariff that would be suitable for me and save me money.

I cam up with npower Billsaver. Costing me an estimated £21 per month. Its an online tariff.

I found it through Guardian energy comparison. It asked me who my current supplier is. I do not have one, but I got a letter from Spark energy. The agency said they would be sending my details to them. So I put them down.

It then said that after 3 weeks a meter reading will be given to the old supplier and a final bill drawn up. However I just want to pay npower from my moving in date and give them the meter reading that was given as part of my itinerary when moving in.

Can I call npower and explain this to them and get it set up just to pay them? I have not signed anything with Sprark.

Thanks in advance,
SavingSomeCoin

Hi, normally when you move to another property , you take meter readings the day you move in and you sign up to the supplier who supplied the previous occupant, on a standard tariff so you aren't stuck with them, you are then free to switch which you can start as soon as you have signed up with Spark.

As Spark are the current supplier that service has to be finalised before you can switch.

You say you have already moved in so you are at present using Spark's energy.

You can start the switch straight away to ensure you get the tariff you want.

Your new supplier will ask for readings when the switch goes through and they will pass these readings on to Spark so they can prepare your bill for the period between moving in and the switch.

You can not just get Npower to supply you from your move in date as they are not the current suppliers for the property.

I hope you you confirmed your meter readings the day you moved in with the landlord or previous owner.
  • Hello Keith1950,

When I moved in I was given the meter reading. Spark was only suggested by the agency, they said I was free to choose who I wanted to go with.

I do not know who the previous tenant's supplier was. Is there any reason I cannot give npower the move in reading and just move to them? I can then pay them from the move in date.

You have no choice, you are a deemed customer of the existing supplier as soon as you use their energy.

You can't switch supplier until you have a supplier, so register with the existing supplier now.
