Domestic & General oven insurance - worthwhile ?

Hi,
We have a Creda double oven that was installed around 2000. Since 2002 I have had insurance for it from D&G. We have had to call them out about 4 times since then for various repairs. These ranged from new handles (cost £50 each) to a new fan and spark generator. The oven is working OK at present but sometimes does take time to start when using the grill and one of the handles has started to crack again.
I have just had the insurance renewal sent to me and they want £8.79 pcm.
I am really not sure whether to cancel or renew the insurance. I'm sure that any future repair if required will be at least £70 but I feel I am paying a lot for insurance each year. With hindsight I should have saved the insurance money for the past few years and then used that in case of problems...........
A similar new oven would cost about £400 now with a 1 year warranty.
All advice welcomed.
TIA
Steve

With mid value items such as ovens, washing machines, TV etc I work on the principle that they will have a life of 50 months. I then make sure that I save 1/50th of the cost of each item each month. Most last longer, some fail sooner, but on the whole this fund usually has enough in it to replace or repair something when needed. No insurer making a profit out of it.
You can sometimes get to the stage where you have to make a judgement call on "do I pay £75 to repair, or £400 to replace?". The older it is the more likely I am to replace. Actually, that's a lie. Mrs o4u tells me what we're going to repair / replace and there's little logic in her decisions!0 -
So my oven at 132 months and still going is doing well.
Maybe I should cancel and when it goes bang then replace ?0
