RANT : iPhone / iTunes

We have decided that with a baby on the way we need to make space in our living room for the travel cot, so have put our PC in storage for the time being.
'No probs' I thought, 'we've got the laptop and I'll download iTunes to that so we can still use it'.
Oh no, it's not that simple!
I foolishly thought that when I loaded iTunes onto the lappy and used my email address to sync it, it would bring all my tunes up in the library...but it didn't.
'No probs' I thought,' I'll connect my iPhone to the lappy and move all the data onto it'.
Oh no, it's not that simple.
Apparently, due to 'copyright protection' I can't do that. It's so frustrating - I have paid for every single one of my CDs and painstakingly over time added them to my iTunes on the PC, and there's no easy way to move thaat data to another computer?!
I can understand their point, otherwise you could plug anyone's iPhone into your computer, but I'm just cheesed off that there is no easy way for legitimate users to do the transfer, surely it can't be that uncommon a request??
I am aware that there is software I can buy to do the job but I begrudge paying for it, and wouldn't know where to start with which to use...
Ah well, I'm on maternity leave in a week and a half, so I'll just start the process of manually putting each CD on (man, I'm so tight!)
Anyhow, just wanted a little rant about it - feel much better now

I think you can use your iPhone as an external hard disk and then find all of the files and just copy and paste them to the new iTunes library. There will be a solurion to your problem on the internet somewhere. By the way, who calls their laptop a lappy?0

They added a feature about 3 versions back that makes this easy, providing your have both computers on and connected to the same network then you can use home sharing. Switch home sharing on, on both computers and login using the same iTunes ID, then on the Laptop you should see your other computer listed click it and you will see all the files in iTunes on that computer, then all you have to do it highlight them all and drag to the library on your laptop.
It will be getting even easier soon with iCloud, any purchases you have made from iTunes you will be able to download again and anything not purchased from iTunes you can store online to be downloaded on any computer for $25 a year. Although unfortunately its unknown when these features will be out in the UK because Apple have only got agreement with the record companies in the US so far.0 -

You can use a program called transmanager, just google it, it will copy all the songs off your iphone to your computer, then you can just add them again to itunes.
In fact there are several ways of getting the music off the iphone.0 -

Senuti is one of my favourites. Simply plug in and it downloads the entire contents of your iPod/iPhone (senuti = itunes backwards). This only works on iPhone to Mac though.
There are windows equivalents.0 -
I found Pod2PC to be quite good0
