Garden trimmer

We bought the trimmer from aldi in april thinking it would twist in the middle of the unit so we could cut the grass on the edge vertical and horizontal so pretty much like the old 1 did(think it was a balck and decker). ut it doesnt let you do that and the plastic line breaks 2 or 3 times when you use it.

My question is should the plastic cutting line break so often on a garden trimmer ?

Its labelled as a trimmer as opposed to a strimmer so not sure what the difference is. We've already written to aldi HO saying the line breaks 2 or 3 times when using it and we were sent a new unit from the manufacturers. Should have returned it at an earlier point but didnt get round to it.

If you are using it on grass and soft vegetation the line should not break at all . If you are strimming close to any brick, stone, concrete or woody stuff then the line will break as soon as it comes into contact with such materials.
You could try buying some new line - it comes in several thicknesses , make sure that you get the right one.
I have found that the pound shop refills work quite well. Bit of a pain winding it onto the spool though.
    Forgotten but not gone.

its grass that its used on and we are careful to not use it near any stone or concrete slabs. Yes we could try another refill but a thicker 1, ill check the pound shop out. Whats a suitable make for a strimmer then ? the strimmer that broke was a black and decker so should we stick to that or another make.

My present strimmer is a Flymo which is ok and can be clicked into a sideways position for neat lawn edging and has auto line feed. Cost , as I recall , about £70.
If I were replacing I would not spend more than £40. Would buy Black and Decker or Bosch or Flymo.
