And no file opens?

I'm retiring for the night. In the meantime, unless anyone else has suggestions, follow the instructions here for:

1. Run Disk Cleanup
2. Run Check Disk
3. Run Disk Defragmenter

Click on Windows XP users and follow the instructions. You can use a temp file cleaner such as CCleaner if you have it installed instead of the MS disk cleanup utility.

If all else fails, you can run a clean install.

Since you don't have any Toshiba utilities running, I guess the operating system installed was not the original.

What is the full model number?
