BT line rental saver & Sky

Hi all,
We're most probably getting sky within the next year (finally giving in what with the F1 etc...
) and my phone is currently with BT, with the line rental saver running out this month.
Was looking at transferring broadband aswell as am out of contract with my ISP, and it seems the cheapest way to do it is carry on with the line rental saver, get sky talk freetime and sky unlimited broadband. But is this actually possible? i.e. I think I have to make a certain number of calls on BT to do the line rental saver?

Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

With BT's LRS, you have to leave your calls with BT.
In any case, if you did not opt for LRS but retained BT line rental and went for Sky Talk, you would not be able to make any calls* via BT (Sky Talk is set up in such a way that you CANNOT make calls via BT when you have it - the 1280 prefix, normally used by those using a CPS [Carrier PreSelect] calls provider to send individuasl calls via BT instead of CPS, does not work).
* That would mean you'd attract BT's £1.50/month low use penalty and have to pay £3/month for Caller Display and another £3/month for basic 1571 if you have it/them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for that.
So is my best option getting line rental with sky aswell then, at £12.25 a month?Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -

Not opt for Sky Talk (but that'll mean your Sky Broadband, if you want that, will cost more)? BTW, are you on a Sky LLU'd exchange anywat?
Plusnet broadband?
BT's £4.70/month Unlimited Anytome calls plan?

Seems a no-brainer really - free evening and weekend calls, for free, in exchange for £5 off broadband.BTW, are you on a Sky LLU'd exchange anywat?
Yes, have checked on samknows.comPlusnet broadband?
More expensive than at the moment... (I'm with Orange, but it's only £9/month, plusnet would be £11.49)BT's £4.70/month Unlimited Anytome calls plan?
Normally spend ~£1 a month on phone calls - only need it for the broadband really! Can't get cable before you ask...A www.18185.co.uk account?
Looking into it.
Hmm I'm thinking we might just do the sky tv for now, stick with bt and the LRS and maybe move to sky phone/broadband in another year. Or find some other broadband somewhere! Thanks for giving me things to think about though!
While we're here, do you know if having a single feed for sky tv prevents you from getting sky+ or HD, I can't remember which? And no we can't get a twin feed installed due to the rubbish way this building was built apparently... I'll ask over on the digital tv board if no one knows.Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -
With Sky+, you have to connect to input 1 and use davemurgatroyd's dummy recording workaround.
With SkyHD, there's a single feed mode in the menu system (Services 401 Select or Services 001 Select, I can't remember).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
