Try these people, http://www.unitedvacations.co.uk/ Its United airlines with hotels. You sort your own transfers.

Maybe get them to give you a quote for the same trip as Virgin have.

Good Luck and it sounds like it'll be a fab trip, one tip though, it does get tiring, so dont try and cram too much in and leave the odd day for relaxing.

If you book hotels through Hotels.com http://www.hotels.com/ all the tax's are paid the price quoted is what you pay, & you can get cashback of 8% plus from http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/bri1, you can also check if parking is free, I also looked at Virgin & the hotels they were offering were expensive & also wanted $45 a day for parking in San Francisco, so I booked the flights with them & did the rest myself with a lot of cashback into the bargain, nice.

I have booked a number through here for bargain prices from around £30 for a family room.

If you gave us a clue to the type of hotel you were looking for and whther it has to be city centre or can be out a bit then advice could possibly be a bit more specific.

However, as someone who has done the “package style” holiday all I would say is that for the last 15 years I've booked all hotels myself. If I cannot get them significantly cheaper tha Virgin et al will book them for then I consider myself a total failure. I may take searching around a few sites, but I'd rather do that and save up to 50%+ than pay for Mr Bransons next tropical island!!!
