Help please re an NRG file or help with finding my phone contacts urgently please!

Options
Oh deary dear I am sat here at 2.45am still trying (and failing) to find my telephone contacts....I have now been trying since 9pm...

I have a Nokia 6700 and so does my mum and she has to have a new phone so I suggested (silly me in retrospect!) that we back up all of her stuff on her handset. This was easy peasy and I did it using Nokia PC suite.... so then I had all of mum's stuff saved on the nokia suite on my laptop.... This is when i decided to do something really potty and for some strange reason i decided to see if we had all of her data saved so i popped it onto my phone (assuming that I would have 2 lots of data on my phone) but to my horror i discovered that I have only mum's data now and none of my contacts or messages or anything.. oh dear I am in deep doo doo...

I took a look at the entire www and am totally and utterly stuck... I have never backed up my mobile so have I just lost everything? There has been some mention of the data from my phone synching onto a folder with an nrg extension but although I seem to have located a couple of docs with the nrg ext I cannot open them to check if the info is in there so am doubly stumped and cannot even ring anyone as of course being a complete numpty I don't have any blasted telephone numbers!!!

Help anyone please I am desperate and need to contact people but have no contact numbers... oh dear happy days...

Can you explain what you mean by 'popped it onto my phone'? How?
Have you just swapped the SIM's? If so your contacts are still on your own SIM.
Or did you put a memory card in from the new phone?
Or did you copy from the laptop to your phone using Nokia PC suite?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you used Nokia PC suite, then you should have been able to sync the contacts between PC suite and your phone, and you should have seen as you expected - both sets of contacts. But, if as I suspect you have done a backup of your Mum's phone and then restored that backup to yours, thats a different thing - you would just have cloned hers, and overwritten whatever was on yours. Depending on what was selected for backup /restore, then it could have done other things as well - text messages, pictures, settings etc.
I have seen some mention of a .nbu file for Nokia PC suite, but a .nrg file is a Nero CD image - so I doubt that's what you need.

As macman says, you need to confirm exactly what steps you did, but if it was a restore (with no previous backup of your phone), then unfortunately it's not looking good.

Oh dear you have sussed out just what I did... I think I have backed up mum's info then transferred it all on to my phone with all of her details and overwritten mine... so you are right - I incorrectly thought I would get both as opposed to overwriting my info... thank you so much for your help... happy sunday...
