sorn'ing a vehicle you have just bought
hi does anyone know is it possible to sorn a vehicle I have just bought today which I am keeping off the road and may either restore or break for spares
i have the green new keeper supplement from the v5, and the tax disc which has over a month left on it but was free (electric vehicle), do I have to wait for the v5 to come through in my name
and what about this daft new insurance rule, if I cannot sorn the vehicle as I am not yet the registered keeper on dvla's books can I still get into trouble for not insuring it?
... crazy times, looting and burning going on; and yet the law abiding worry about getting their collar felt too because this bureaucracy seems designed to trip you up
any thoughts please :money:

There is a form to fill out to SORN it. As I found out when I realised they cancelled SORN on change of keeper.

cheers for that.
sadly V14 is only for the registered keeper or previous registered keeper to send back in the tax disc. you can get a sorn done with the same form.
this is no good for me as i am not yet the registered keeper.
it is not as though i am trying to cash in someone elses tax disc in cos its worthless anyway.
i am not insuring the vehicle (electric scooter) as I have 2 the same already on the road and this one is in poor condition which i got for free and maybe using for parts. It is a non runner at present and I collected it with a van.
could i get into trouble for not insuring the vehicle in this interim period as I am not actually entitled to send the tax disc back and sorn the vehicle myself.
i do not know if the previous keeper has canceled their policy yet.
I can hardly say to him, just keep it going mate til I get the log book through.
This crazy continuous insurance law causes more problems for the law abiding than it does the criminals, and ought to be repealed as unworkable.squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0 -
Squack, what's wrong with using a V890 form?
Did you not read the link that Keith provided in post #2?
The bit where it said...Not yet registered as the vehicle keeper
If the vehicle isn't registered in your name, you must fill in section six and sign section eight on the V5C and fill in a V890. If you don't have the V5C you must fill in a 'Application for a registration certificate' (V62) (fee payable). Send in both the V890 and V5C or V62 to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1AR.0 -
do they want the tax disc itself back though?
quote from the direct gov website about form v890
"Form V890 is available if you wish to declare that your vehicle is off of the road and is unlicensed (not taxed)."
the scooter is taxed until the end of september.
the v14 is for sending the tax disc back and sorn
but you can't use the v14 unless you are the registered keeper or the previous registered keeper
do you see where I am coming fromsquaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0 -
squack
If seller of vehicle has sent the left hand side of log book off then you will most likely get the log book within 10 days seeing as dvla are very quiet at the moment
do nothing till log book comes back
when it does yoo can then try sorning on line (it failed for me)
go to the post office (post office now dont do sorn)
ring up dvla to sorn (last time i did this my sorn never appeared)
or do what i do
send the v890 directly to dvla by registered post ,costs £1.27 but at least you know then they got it
remember if you do break the bike you have to sorn it for eternity or the authorities will dig you up to sell your bones if you have no heirs0 -
