Alton Towers - chancers?

When the price reached £30 for entry, pretty much everyone who went to the park used some form of 2-4-1 deal.
I do wonder if they removed the 2-4-1 offers, would they cut the price to £20 per head.0 -

so why do people go to these places? I have seen posts from adults who want to go themselves but I have never been so dont know what the attraction is?
At what age do kids demand to go the theme parks?
I feel angry that schools put Alton Towers offer leaflets into primary school book bags.... i did not ask for my kids (age 6 and 7) to be exposed to such blatent advertising!
We live in Peak District so relatively near to Alton Towers but we have never been. If it was not for those adverts in the book bags the kids would not even know what Alton Towers was, so would not ask to go.
I am wondering at what age pester power will force us to go...dh and myself dont have any desire to go on the rides so we will resist going as long as we can.
They have been to Gullivers at Matlock Bath but my 6 year old did not want to go on any of the rides (apart from Tea cups and flying elephants) so paying for her to go to Alton Towers would be a complete waste of money.
Anyway i just wondered why people went if they thought they were so expensive??

I go to Alton Towers with my DD at least once a year, and often with the leaflets from her book bag - nothing to do with her pester power, I think its a great day out for all the family. Would never pay full price to go there, and we do make a whole day out of it.
Our local petting zoo/farm costs about £15 for the 2 of us to enter, and we're lucky if theres enough going on to keep us amused for a couple of hours.0 -
We're going with our free tickets in middle of September .(sun promotion) We're going by train, and have worked out that we can get there by 11am. We will then have to leave at 5pm to catch our train back.
Does anyone think that this will be enough time or will we be pushing it to get on a decent amount of rides in that time? We're taking a packed lunch, and will stop for 20 minutes or so to eat.
It is in term time, so perhaps it will be less busy then, perhaps not,- i just dont know.
We went last year at Halloween when we got our free tickets, and spent all day there. It was mega busy. just wondering if it's worth our while going even with free tickets if we are going to spend most of our time queuing.
Any advice from Alton towers veterens:)0 -
Every time we've been to Alton Towers just about everyone in the queue has some kind of discount voucher, and there are people are kindly offering spares to anyone without one. Legoland is the same. Pricing admission high and then widely offering discount coupons seems to be their marketing ploy. It does get tedious, though, trying to get the price down to something acceptable for most families. I'm sure everyone would prefer a fair admission price without all the faffing around with coupons.0

You'll be fine. Mid Sept is a lovely time to go, nice and quiet but still warm. Along with the week before the easter hols, it's my favourite time (not counting Scarefest!)DTD...Dreading The Detox.0 -

you'll probably have the park almost to yourselves in mid-September termtime - all the kids safely back in harness at school.

Thank you both,- you've reassured me. :)I'm taking DD out of school for a sneaky day. Wouldn't normally for something like this,- but really wanted to take advantage of the free tickets.0

I think Alton Tower's have a cheek for charging for parking You have to pay horrendous amount for tickets as it is without having to pay for the parking on top I don't know anywhere else that charges for parking on top of entrance fee Alton Towers have a captive audience as it is difficult to get to if you don't go in your car so they think they can get away with charging for parking0
