external hard drive.

We have just put all our music onto our pc and are looking to put it on an external hard drive. my question is , would we be able to create play-lists etc. to connect to and play music though our amp? Or do we need to buy an mp3/ipod. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

it depends on how/what you intend to plug the external hard disk into the amp with

unless your amp/tv/pvr/dvd player/media player supports usb and can read the format of music file, you need something between the amp and the hard disk

I suggest leaving one copy on the pc, as external hard disks can fail

Keep the music on your PC and a back-up copy on the external hard drive.

Then use Windows Media Player (which you already have on your PC as part of the windows installation) to play back the music through your PC headphones/speakers. Tutorials widely available on the internet. Windows Medial Player lets you build playlists easily.

Once you have that sorted, all you need is a one of these between the line out or headphone jack on your PC and the Aux input of your Amplifier.

Obviously turn the sound down on both PC and Amplifier to start with. Mine just has the headphones on the PC and the amplifier set at normal levels. YMMV

Once you have all that sorted you can play with other media players such as Winamp or Media Monkey if you so desire. If you don't have an iThing stay clear of iTunes because it is the media player of Satan :).

I just use WMP -no problems
