Stormywaters saving diary

Options
I've been inspired by all of you to start a diary, to keep track of my saving goals. Once upon a time, I had savings, but after I was made redundant and couldn't find another job, they soon went. So I'm haing to start from scratch. Not easy!

So far, my saving's ISA has £644.63 in it - I have had to borrow some from it recently, to pay for my holiday etc, but I'm hoping I won't need to again!

I have a direct debit of £20 every week to my ISA, and my aim is to put £100 every pay day (have just started a new job, but it's only part time so won't be able to put much more than this)

Today, BF and I have sold all our CD's through Music Magpie, totalling £78, which will go towards our holiday in a few weeks time.

We're hoping to get married in the spring of 2013, so need some pennies saved before then, and BF is being made redundant next year so need something for backup.

Well, now it's there in black and white! No excuses!;)

  • Thinking about whether I have any stuff worthy of putting on ebay. So far got some self-tan, false nails/remover, all bought any never used. Won't get much I doubt, but every little helps.

BF just been out and bought a laptop. Oh dear!

good luck! The hardest thing is getting started! Every little helps. My word of advice - try not to compare yourself to everyone else you see on here - what every saves is relative. No matter how little or lot you save its better than nothing :D I look forward to reading your diary!

  • Thanks Jackies. It's gonna be tough for the first couple of months as I have my hols coming up in 2 weeks, and then my car tax at the end of Sept. I'm hoping I can make a bit of extra cash though, through ebay etc. Any tips on what else I could do?

  • I'm up and ready earlier this morning, as the courier is coming to take mine and BF's CD's away. Hopefully they'll come early, as I leave for work just after 12. Sod's law says they come after I've left. It really bugs me that these couriers can't commit to a shorter time window than 8am to 8pm.

Yesterday, I went to my mum's, and she gave me the money for my wedding dress - I'd paid the deposit already, but this means I can get the whole thing paid off. Just have to find somewhere to put the thing until I get wed in Spring 2013! I have managed to put £80 back into my ISA too.

I also raided my piggy bank at the weekend, and have put £13 in the bank. Not too shabby! Was very heavy to carry in my handbag!

Only 2 weeks till my holiday, so fingers crossed I get the cheque for my CD's before then!

  • Well wouldn't you know it. the courier missed me as I had to leave for work! I'm leaving a note on the door today, I putting the boxes where they can find them. God knows what time that will be.

I did my week's shopping online for the first time ever, and was delivered last night. Not too bad - one thing with today's date on and one thing out of stock, but otherwise happy, and saved a bit of cash by not going around the shop picking up things we didn't need! Will try to make a habit of this.

Made a list of all the foodstuffs I have in my cupboards/freezer etc. Loads of jars/tins etc that I'd forgotten I had! Feel inspired to make some stuff, and am starting by making a steamed syrup pudding this morning for our pud tonight! BF will be thrilled as he's got a sweet tooth, rather like myself!

Have wandered around the house this morning with my camera, looking for things to ebay. Will transfer them to my laptop when I've finished writing this, and get them listed. Only little nick-nacs really, but should get a few quid towards my hols, I'm hoping.

Spending my mornings doing stuff around the house, and out walking/playing with the dog, so not spending anything during the day. I have about 60p in my purse, and have done since the weekend, only spent £12 on petrol off my card.

So all in all, not doing so bad, and not long now til payday, when I should be able to put an additional £100 into my ISA. :j

  • It is looking doubtful that my cheque from Music Magpie will be here in time for my hols, and I've overspent in my current account and am now in mt overdraft. I don't think I'll be able to put my target of £100 - if anything - into my ISA this month, as I'm gonna need the money now for my holday next week, and I'll have to be really careful as I won't then have much left for the rest o the month.

All in all, feeling pretty poor. :(

  • Feeling a bit more positive today. Shuffled some money about and get paid on hursday, so once the bills money has gone out and I've (hopefully!) been able to put a little bit in my savings, I should still have enough for hols, as long as I'm really really careful!

Bought some holiday clothes off the next site, which I can pay for next month, and BF ordered some stuff too, including a really nice watch. Had to reaurn a dress this morning as I tried it on and it looked awful, so with the money I saved there, bought some new undies, desperately needed - BF burst out laughing when I took my clothes off last night to reveal the most hideous under garments imaginable. Asda specials, I'd imagine!

Anyhoo - roll on the weekend and holidays!!! :j

  • Thank God for payday! Drove to my mum's yesterday morning, and my exhaust fell off on the busiest road imaginable. Was not impressed. Only a smidgeon of petrol, and 30p credit on my mobile. So I had to ring my mum, and get my dad to drive to me with his mobile phone so I could phone the AA! Oh dear! And it cost me £130 to get a new exhaust fitted. Still, learned my lesson: Always have at least some credit on my phone, and some petrol in my tank, no matter how poor I think I am!

  • Due to my hols, and having my car fixed, I've had to dip into my ISA, and am now overdrawn on my normal account. Can't say be what though, as Nutwest have messed up my onine banking and now I can't access it until they send me a new activation code. Am not impressed.

I've decided that I need an aim, so have set myself a goal of £1000 in my ISA by Christmas.

Also have decided that I can't manage on part time money, and am totally fed up of drifting from office job to office job, so have set up an appointment to see a careers advisor on the 28th of this month. Really want to do something like animal care, but this will mean I'll probably have to retrain, and/or do some serious volunteer work to get at least some experience and an idea of the area I want to persue.

  • For some reason, my savings seems to be going down instead of up. Curious.
