Facebook selling

Hi
Need some advice about my new little hobby. I am selling my childrens clothes and baby equipment on facebook so far locally and have done ok. My prices are usually charging up to half what i paid new but generally around £1 to £2 per item. I am fed up with delivering now as i was only charging £1 and people pay on deliverey and aren't in when i turn up ! So thinking of posting unless buyer wishes to collect.

What would be best way to do this. To advertise item and then put postage charge next to it, or to just put price including postage? I have worked this out and what would of cost the person £1 now seems to be £2.00 to £3.00 as i have to include paypal fee somewhere and postage cost. It is a hobby but also trying to bring in a few pounds to help with new clothes costs so don't want to give the stuff away! Ebay charge fees too so avoiding them.

Any ideas would be great thanks!

:)

I'm not really clued up on selling on Facebook but if I were you, I'd advertise saying collection and you can give specific time slots (e.g. 5pm-9pm Mondays or 10am-2pm Sat/Sun etc) or say you will deliver, giving them the option of certain times you can do it and they can choose what's convenient.

I have sold a bit on eBay and with the postage costs, fees and Paypal charges it's extortionate!

Could you maybe just add delivery on as an option? Making sure that all your charges including Paypal were included here?

To open a facebook advertising page.

Go to your facebook profile, scroll right down the page and at the very bottom your find options re advertising create a page etc. Just Click on create a page and it will guide you through the process.

what about selling on gumtree and getting them to collect
The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

  • I sell on facebook, if i'm selling alot of items in the same week I try to keep an evening free and a day at the weekend that I know i'm going to be at home. Then people can normally work into that quite easily.
I tend to have the items all in my dining room displayed neatly ready for collection and have sold extras when people have made collections when they've seen what else i'm sellling.
With no fees it is so much easier.
My town and area have 3 different facebook pages that sell items so i'm quite lucky.

    See: http://www.facebook.com/sellingpage for a new development . ;)

That page doesn't really make it clear if it's going to be a way to open a new page just for selling on facebook (like the name suggests), or if it's just a facebook page for another selling/classifieds type site.

It appears to be the latter on investigation. Domain regd to a media company in Grimsby.:D Not so good after all.

You should try gumtree. I've sold a few things on there and found it really good. You advertise your stuff locally so it's much easier to arranged pick up.
