... try as I have, I still have not been able to find a lively forum with advice on employment issues.
Can anyone recommend anything?

I used to look at https://www.workplacelaw.net from time to time. They cover topics from employment to facilities management and health and safety. Anyone can sign on for a free 7 days trial. Members (the paying variety) can pose questions to a panel of employment lawyers. I have found the quality of the info generally just okay - fairly general and it is possible to find the same info free of charge from, say, the DTI's employment relations site or https://www.tiger.gov.uk. As to a discussion forum, this workplacelaw site does have one, the last time I looked about 10 months ago. Alas, only paying members can participate. You might be able to get a good taste of it during the free trial. My personal impression was that the site tries to sell documents e.g. a model disciplinary and grievance procedure. Have not bought one for my work but let's just say anyone wanting to use a model need to have a high level of awareness of the issues involved in order to use it effectively and properly.0
