    Sorry I've also just thought of another question if anyone can help - we're getting a mortgage protection policy. Our advisor caught us off guard (we weren't aware we were going to be discussing it when we last met him so I hadn't done much research!) and has tried to sell us life insurance with critical illness. We're only on the quote stage so far and having looked into it and considered all options we're sure that we only want life insurance for now, we're very young healthy with no dependants. I presume to only have life insurance will be ok with the mortgage company?

    I'll be able to check when we get the offer letter but I'd like to tell our advisor not to go ahead with the quote asap!!

    Mortgage companies can't insist you have any insurance other than buildings insurance.
