Wireless TV?

Hi,
I have recently installed a wireless bridge to work with my HD TV on Freesat.

It works well with great reception/pictures on I player and itv player.
This "Catch up" TV is a great facility--much better than fiddling around with tapes!

However, I was wondering if I can use this type of facility to transmit my desktop data to the TV for viewing/listening eg, mp3 collections, photo collections?

Also is it possible to buy and download films ( legally!) and then transmit to the TV wirelessly.

I have Itunes/Spotify /Windows media player installed . Can I use these?

There are certainly ways - some easier than others.

Take a look at the TV's specs and see if it is DLNA compliant. If it is, and you are running WMP 12 (AFAIK only available with Win7) then you can stream from that to the TV, because version 12 has a DLNA server built-in.

There are other methods (e.g. MythTV) but they typically require a small PC next to the TV, or a dedicated media server PC.

Depends on the TV / Set-Top Box.

If you have a Humax FreeSat HDR their is custom firmware to turn it into a DNLA server, so you can use it to record and stream to other machines in the network.

With some you can out of the box. If your using iTunes you could buy an AppleTV (£99) unit which will allow you to stream from iTunes on your computers and from lots of different apps on any iOS devices you may have (iPhone, iPad etc)
  • I am using a Freesat Humax HD box with Netgear universal adapter WNCE 2001 which works very well for BBC/ITV players.

The Tv is Samsung with a separate unused USB port. It is less than 2 years old so it should be compliant.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

If you mean DLNA complant, don't see why it should be just because it's less than two years old. Have you checked?
  • Hi,
Checked specification for DNLA compliance--no mention only Samsung Anynet+ compliant.

This appears to be method of accessing external devices on the TV.
Unfortunately although my Netgear bridge device is excellent for "Catch Up" TV,it is not Anynet compliant!

Also my Freesat Humax HD box is picking up the wireless signal from my router and sending it to my TV via a cable . Could this box be the problem?

Do Freesat have a dedicated channels for other media like 901/903 for BBC/ITV players?

Now thats perked my interest, can you do something here if you have a PS3 next to the PC, a quick fgoogle has them as capable of acting as a DLNA client..... (or is that only the newer ones)
