Is there a Visa Supplier Locator for Europe?

Hello,

In the US one can search for businesses that accept VISA. It's called Visa Supplier Locator. I can't post links here but if you google "visa supplier locator" you'll find it.

This is very useful if you have a cash back credit card because the search gives you the details of what mcc-code (merchant category code) the business is registred with.

Now, does anyone know if a similar search engine exists for businesses in Europe?

Not sure about the search engine for it. However Visa and Mastercard are the most accepted cards.

I dont think there is one,but visa and mastercard are the most common cards issued and used in europe so you wouldnt have a problem using them. Its only Amex that you will find isnt as widely accepted.
  • I know Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, and it's not the "where can I use my Visa card?" part of the search engine that I'm interested in. I'm after the mcc-codes as I have several Visa credit cards that offer cashback in different categories. That way I can know in advance that that particular shop is indeed categorised as "electronics" by Visa and that I get the relevant cashback.

Surely if it's possible for Visa to have such a search engine for the US it should be possible here in Europe as well....

I can see now what your referring, there is a similar database available to companys that have purchasing cards, i know citibank have a database on there ccrs/ccms system and barclaycard have one to that allows you to view merchants to find there mcc (this way you know if its under a blocked) category.

Why visa dont issue one for europe im guessing is down to the fact that alot of companies in could come under different categorys in different countrys of europe, as there are alot of blanked out country specific mcc codes on the database(citibank). Also in the US the relevant MCC codes have tax implications for use with the IRS in europe there isnt any.
