First time buyers in london how are you finding it?

Hi I though I would start this thread to see how others are finding the market in London for FTB. I've really only just started looking but have seen two places both of which disappeared off the market really quick one we saw, thought of putting an offer in only for it to have gone by lunch time the following day ( only on the market a week). The other went on the market Monday phoned the agent to arrange a viewing but because of the riots and work the earliest I could arrange a viewing was Saturday. Today the agent send out the new this week email with this properties details, two hours later they phone to say my viewing was cancelled as they had had an offer accepted! Is this normal are other FTB finding the same thing? I thought this was a buyers market.

We were London ftb's last years soundgirl and things weren't moving quite that quickly, but briskly nonetheless. Similar flats to ours are usually selling within 2-3 weeks and two doors up just went for £14,000 more than we paid!

Probably depends where you are in London though?
  • I'm looking in South Norwood, I probably have high expectation of what I want for the money I've got but I thought I was in a really strong position as a FTB with a big deposit, I'm not tied into a contract renting and can move quickly ( solicitor selected and a mortgage broker in place ) still fingers crossed I have a few viewing this weekend I'm still feeling optimistic I just might have to be prepared to put a offer in as soon as I see some where I like rather than wait till a second viewing and try and treat a first viewing like the second and think practicality
