Flying to Australia - In need of advice as I'm clueless!

Do NOT try to take alcohol in hand luggage into Australia it will be removed at last departure airport to Oz. Bottles of spirits are 1.125L and can be purchased on arrival two per person, no need to carry own bottles seperately.
Declare any food stuffs on the form before customs as bags will be X-rayed on arrival and a fine imposed if anything found.0 -

Bottles of duty free in Oz are 1 litre the same as most other countries, do NOT try and buy two 1.25l bottles and bring them in unless there are at least 2 adults as the limit is 2.25l per person (and if you are over you are charged duty on the full amount not just the bit over).
You can buy duty free in advance of arriving but unless it is in sealed duty free bags it is likely to be confiscated when you board the aircraft (not really work the risk given duty free is available on landing).
Declare all foodstuffs (including sweets) and follow the published details and bin fresh stuff in advance (the dogs will spot you really easily otherwise). It's actually quicker getting through if you have something to declare than nothing so I always have at least a pack on mints on me

I assumed this related to the restriction on liquids going through security - not anything else.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Spottydog:
You cannot carry any duty free or other liquids into Oz apart from the usual 100ml amount therefore alcohol can only be purchased on arrival. They sell in 1 L and 1.125 L sizes, check online.

I presume this is to protect their own shops as it is usually cheaper elsewhere even Heathrow! You can carry in hold luggage if you want to risk it up to the limit.0 -
ok, I don't know for sure, but on a flight to Australia once, I bought some duty free perfume on the plane...we had a stop in Hong Kong, had to get off the plane - took our carry on stuff with us (including the perfume) and had a struggle to get it back through security as it was over the 100ml limit.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

Cant add anything to what has been said but what i will say is that Melbourne i s beautiful. If you have time to spare take the tram to ST Kilda and wander about there for a bit. Even the city loop tram is free so that will be a sightseeing tour you wont have to worry about. And flinders st station is amazing from the out side."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

If you search on FlyerTalk it seems that you may not HAVE to get off but people have reported disembarking for the 90 minutes. I would leave the plane just to stretch legs and get some air, unless you are flying First class why would you want to sit in the same tiny seat for 17 hours.

Why did he think "systolic" ?0 -
Just checked my duty free grog cupboard ... the Bundy Rum and Oyzo are most definitely 1.125 L
We travel regularly overseas from Melbourne and never have a problem with customs bringing back 2 bottles of whatever per person. Giant bottles of Whiskey is a different matter lol.
Melbourne weather is beautiful at the moment. The Wattle is in full bloom and the blossom is bursting out on the trees... clear sunny skies :-)0
